"A Closer Look at Deconstruction" | Soundings Seminar

From its inception, Coracle has felt called to create space for people to go deeper with God in the midst of the brokenness of the world and to create space to get to know God better, even in seasons of big questions or doubt.  This year, we've felt specifically called to re-focus our ongoing activities towards people who are currently "deconstructing" their faith or who are seeking to care for those who are deconstructing.

Join us for this one-hour conversation between Rev. Bill Haley, Rev. Aaron Graham, and Dr. Kimberly Battle-Waters Denu as we talk through different academic and pastoral vantage points on what is going on in this pronounced trend of doubt, wrestling, and departure from the church.  Our hope is that this seminar will help strengthen our appreciation of our current cultural moment and offer some ways to respond faithfully to it.  We hope to see you there, and please bring your questions!

Pastor Aaron Graham: 

Aaron serves as founder and lead pastor of The District Church in the heart of our nation’s capital. The District Church is committed to growing and multiplying leaders who have a heart for the city. Before moving to DC, Aaron started the Quincy Street Missional Church in a low-income neighborhood of Boston where he served for five years. He is a graduate of Harvard’s Kennedy School and received his doctorate from Fuller Theological Seminary. Aaron and his wife Amy are both pastors as well as adoption and foster care advocates. They founded DC127 with the mission to unite churches to reverse the foster care wait list in DC. They live in Columbia Heights with their two adopted kids Elijah and Natalie.

Dr. Kimberly B.W Denu: 

Kimberly Battle-Walters Denu, PhD, is a professor of sociology and social work, has served as a Vice President/Chief Diversity Officer, Vice Provost of Undergraduate Programs, and a special advisor to the President and Provost at Azusa Pacific University.  She recently served as the Vice President for Educational Programs at the CCCU.  Dr. Denu received her bachelor’s degree from Vanguard University of Southern California, her master’s degree in social work from Temple University, and her doctorate in sociology from the University of Florida.  In addition, Dr. Denu is an ordained minister who has done ministry work on six continents.
