Description

Join us for an informative hour with Dr. Walter E. Fluker, a professor of Theology connected with Emory and Boston Universities, and a 40+ year student of Dr. Howard Thurman's writings and teachings.  In addition to learning more about Howard Thurman's life and legacy, Dr. Fluker will also lead us into a topic near and dear to his heart and ours—the formation of true human community—looking through the eyes of both Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Thurman.

While they share much common ground in their thinking, King and Thurman do have some distinct differences in their emphases and what they believe are the proving grounds of an engaged community building the Kingdom of God together.  Dr. Fluker will help us examine these differences and connect them to present-day challenges.  We will examine their views on the church's role in society, the importance of individual spiritual formation, and the themes of mysticism and the prophetic in Thurman and King respectively.

We hope you will join us for this informative discussion on these two towering theologians, with Dr. Fluker, our knowledgeable guide.  Rev. Bill Haley will moderate the discussion.
