Description

How can we, as Christians, help repair what is broken around race in America?

It's a simple enough question on its face, and yet, if you've tried to work out an answer to it for yourself, you know that it can get very complicated very fast.  We believe churches– following our Lord who sacrificed himself to repair our broken relationship with him– have a significant opportunity to lead the way towards repentance and meaningful repair in our nation.

The question of reparations has been taken up all over the country and in nations across the world in different contexts in recent years.  In their new book, Reparations: A Christian Call for Repentance and RepairRev. Duke Kwon and Dr. Greg Thompson lay out the historic legitimacy, moral necessity, and biblical urgency for reparations from slavery in the context of the church.  These two authors are joining us for this enlightening conversation where they will open up their research and present their Christian perspective on the question of reparations in the United States.

You don't need to have read the book, and you don't have to agree with the authors to be a welcome participant!  We're really excited to host this time to consider this question together, and all we ask is for participants to share our commitment to respectful and civil dialogue. There will be an open Q&R at the end with the authors, and we hope you will enrich our conversation with your questions! Ultimately, they aim to give us a glimpse of a future that is reconciled, just, and more like Christ.  This is a great way to think about one possible answer to the question "What can I do?" when it comes to the United States' painful racial history and present.
