From the moment St. Columba set foot on the southern shore of the island of Iona, this beautiful island off the West Coast of Scotland began to be consecrated as a thin place where men and women could pray, work, and worship in community. From this community, Columba established over 300 churches and over 30 monastic communities across Scotland and Northern England. Godly men and women trained here, like Aidan would establish communities like Holy Island on Lindisfarne, Northumbria. This spirit of being with Christ in community so that we can join Him in the world was rekindled by Reverand George MacLeod in the 1930’s and pilgrims have continually come to be renewed and refreshed in intimate communion with
Jesus.
Coracle will be offering a weeklong pilgrimage from July 13th to 19th, journeying from Glasgow, Scotland to Iona, where we will spend five days in community on the island. We will join with others on the island for morning prayer and eucharist to start our days and come back together for compline in the evenings. In between, we journey on short walks around the island to worship and to pray. Our days will offer much space for silence and solitude and rest. The cost of the pilgrimage is $1,650 for those sharing a double occupancy twin room and $2,100 for those desiring to have a private room at one of the quaint hotels/B&B on the island. This cost includes a fully cooked breakfast each morning and all transportation within Scotland. It does not include the cost of airfare, lunches, or dinners. This is a two-part application process. Please click here to start the process; further instructions will be sent to you.
You will depart Glasgow, Scotland, at 8:00 am on July 13th and we will return on the evening of July 19th. Please allow an additional travel day at the end due to the succeptibility of Iona ferry service due to inclement weather.
