You're invited to participate in the next Corhaven Graveyard book club journey. Throughout 2021, sign-up for opportunities to explore Virginia slave narratives spaces, and similar voices of the enslaved. These Zoom-based, one-hour conversations will give you an opportunity to read about difficult life experiences with fellow pilgrims that aim toward Coracle's vision of "Spiritual Formation for Kingdom Action." Each session will focus on voices of the enslaved in different formats, as well as draw from current event discussions, art & literature, and similar components for transformative reflection via social media in optional weekly posts via Corhaven Graveyard's Facebook and Instagram feeds.
On March 31, from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m, we will begin this journey in conjunction with the Coracle Book & Movie Club. To prepare for this discussion, please read Autobiographies & Narratives (section 4 of Blassingame) and The Narrative of Bethany Veney (DOWNLOADABLE PDF HERE).
Materials will be provided ahead of time for those that sign up. You can participate in one discussion, two, or all five. The volume, Slave Testimony: Two Centuries of Letters, Speeches, Interviews, and Autobiographies, edited by J.W. Blassingame is the primary text we will be using; which you are welcome to check out at your local library or acquire a personal copy. While this text is recommended, it is not required. For more information, contact Sarah. Please sign up via neon to participate.
